LATPP Frequently Asked Questions
How much does it cost?
The Los Angeles Teacher Preparation Pathway (LATPP) provides free support, covered by grants. This includes test prep, advice on credential programs and financial aid, plus training to work with multilingual learners (the Skill Building Experience). You will also receive $2,000 toward your teaching career.
You will cover tuition at Rivet School for your BA (if needed) and/or credential program. Costs depend on the program and your financial aid. Your LATPP coach will help you understand the costs, apply for financial aid and choose the most affordable path.
What financial assistance is available?
You will get $2,000 from LATPP. You’ll receive $500 after finishing the Skill Building Experience and $1,500 towards tuition after your first semester of the credential program.
You may also qualify for extra financial aid for your BA or credential program. If you’re getting your BA through Rivet School with us, they will help you find out what aid you can get (read more here). Your coach will help you find and apply for financial aid for your credential program, so you can get the most support possible. We also aim to help you keep earning money while you study, so you don’t lose wages.
What are the different options available for credential programs?
LATPP partners with Intern and Residency programs that allow you to earn income while working toward your credential. See an overview of these programs here. Below is a list of our current partners by school system, with links to more details on each program.

What type of credential can I get?
In LATPP, you can choose any credential from our partner programs listed above.
What will I do in the Skills Building Experience?
The Skill Building Experience (SBE) is a five-month program that teaches you to work with students who speak more than one language or are learning English. There is also an option for those interested in teaching Transitional Kindergarten. An LATPP coach will guide you as you practice with students and complete online lessons. This will help you prepare for English Language Development (ELD) or bilingual certification. To complete the SBE and earn a $500 payment, you need to do about 45 hours of work during the semester.
How long does the program take?
It depends on your situation and the program you choose. If you get your BA through Rivet School, you can finish in as little as two years, depending on your pace. Learn more here. Our partner credential programs take 1 to 2 years to complete.
What are the schedule requirements?
Are there in-person meetings?
LATPP offers support both in-person at your job and online. Your LATPP coach will help set up virtual meetings that fit your schedule. The in-person part of the Skill Building Experience happens during your workday at your school. LATPP may also have optional in-person community events.
If you're getting your BA through Rivet School, all coursework is online and can be done at any time. Each partner program has different schedules and requirements. Your LATPP coach can help you choose the best option for you.
Can I transfer my previous BA or credential coursework?
It depends on your completed coursework and chosen program. If you’re getting your BA through Rivet School, you can have your transcripts reviewed and may transfer some credits. An AA degree usually transfers too. Check Rivet School for more details. If you have graduate credits, they will be reviewed by the new program. Your LATPP coach can help with this.
Will I get a job after my credential?
LATPP works closely with school systems that are eager to support you. They hope you'll stay in your school or district after you get your credential. LATPP and your school system will do our absolute best to help you find a teaching position and continue serving your community.
What if things change and I can no longer participate in LATPP?
You can pause your LATPP enrollment anytime and return when it’s right for you. If LATPP isn’t the right fit, you can withdraw without extra costs. Tuition paid to partner programs is non-refundable, but there are no additional financial penalties.
